Acting on sustainability

Several years ago, we decided to do what was necessary so that our company would be a desirable workplace for future generations. We started to ask some difficult questions about ourselves and about the design and construction industry.

Instead of the status quo, we want to foster longer-term thinking, a holistic, team approach to projects, and careers that are rewarding professionally, economically and emotionally.

To us, this defines sustainability. We're serious about it. We're doing something about it, and it makes us a better company.

Our internal sustainability program is called the "IRIS Project". IRIS stands for Integrated Rating Indicator for Sustainability, a sustainability measurement tool developed by our sister company Loop Initiatives. The IRIS Project commits the company to improvement across multiple categories, measured by 13 sustainability indicators.

You may know us as specialists in structural, cladding or restoration engineering. You may know us as the people who provide advice on capital costs or risk assessment for building ownership.

What you may not know is that we have a dedicated sustainable design team that integrates all of these skills. This group enables teams to deliver buildings that perform efficiently, have lower life cycle costs and can easily adapt to changes in use.

Our experience includes managing the sustainable design initiative and/or providing engineering services for some inspiring green projects (PDF file). Through Sustainable Design Facilitation, we create the team environment needed to change existing habits and build better buildings. We also provide clients with LEED compliance, energy optimization and increased indoor environmental quality. We help property owners and managers make sense of the available incentive programs.
